Materials:

For this course the bigger variety of materials the better, as we will be experimenting with mixed media. Ideally you will have graphite or charcoal, soft pastels, paints (oil or acrylic), ink and some materials to collage with - tissue and sugar paper are great, also wallpaper samples, cutouts from magazines and you can also create your own collage materials by painting some sheets of paper. If you also have white emulsion, watercolour crayons or Inktense, oil pastels or oil bars then these can be a great addition but are not essential. You don’t need a lot of any one material, variety is the key. You will need some different surfaces to work on - cardboard is super, plus some reasonably robust paper (cartridge is fine), and lastly some wallpaper paste. If you are investing in materials, then most of the ones I buy for my regular Life Class are from Jackson’s Art.

About:

Self expression is at the core of all artistic practice, your own individual expression is what makes your work unique. During this six week course you will take part in a collection of liberating exercises with a focus on developing, honing and embracing your own expression through art. Working from life, we will take our observations further using them as a spring board for creating dynamic and exciting studies and reflections of the world around us. As always the critique is individually focused with no “right" or “wrong” but rather a goal of individual development and original expression.

How it works:

I email you the brief and a link to our Zoom meetings a day or so ahead. At the beginning of the session we meet to discuss the brief. You then go off and create your work and upload it to my google drive. We meet again towards the end to critique everyones work.

If for any reason you can’t make the Zoom meetings then you are welcome to call or email me another time, and of course during the two hours if you need feedback on your work while you draw.
