Tuition is an important part of my work as an artist and I find supporting others inspires my own work. I often draw my students at work and I am fascinated by the relationship between artist and subject. I aim for a collaborative approach to my sessions, with an emphasis on experimentation, challenge and personal development. I offer a variety of tuition opportunities in Blewbury, which are listed below. I also tutor at Sunningwell School of Art, and hold occasional workshops at Charleston House and OVADA.

The Hidden Figure
11 & 12 August | Monday & Tuesday
10am - 3pm | £152
Life drawing meets imagination in this relaxing and explorative two day workshop. Working from life, you’ll draw or paint our wonderful model in a semi disguised setup. I will be sharing a little of the way I use colour in my work as a means of hiding, disguising and finding features, and will be encouraging you to enjoy the hidden element in your work and to experiment with colour as a tool. Our model will be posing for the duration of the workshop and you can choose to work directly from the setup or to make studies and work from these. You’ll have the option to experiment with the many materials available and there will be plenty of scope for both group and individual discussion.
Spaces are limited and on a first come basis.
Experimental Oil Painting

A wonderful opportunity to explore oil painting in a loose and freeing way! Experiment with mediums, application and surfaces. Designed to liberate you from conventions and encourage a playful relationship with oil paint. Bring your own studies and sketches to work from, or create a small still life with the objects I have. Whatever your subject, the aim is to experiment with oil paint and enjoy all that it can do for you, and all that you can do with it. I’ll be sharing a little of my own process and with spaces limited to a small supportive group there is plenty of scope for flexibility in work and time for individual and group discussion.

LIFE CLASS
25th April - 11th July (9th & 16th May Artweeks - no class) | Fridays
10am - 12:30pm | £290 ten week term
Drawing is a means of communicating your ideas and sharing your observations. Whether you are a professional artist or a beginner, life drawing is like exercise for your eyes, and everyone can benefit from it.
During the Life Class you'll tackle a series of liberating exercises, designed to free you up and be honest about what you see. From blind drawing to negative spaces. You'll get to experiment with a range of materials, draw with chalk on sticks, practice measured drawing, tackle moving poses and find the model amongst a jumble of furniture.
Each week the group is given an exercise, but the critique is always individually focused, with no ‘right’, ‘wrong’ or ‘expected’ outcome, but rather a goal of individual development and original expression. So that beginners and practising artists alike are equally challenged and supported. The outcome being a continuous maturing of skill and confidence, in a relaxing and supportive environment.
We break for cups of tea and biscuits. I aim to end each session with some longer poses so that you have time to do your own thing and put what you've learnt into practice.
Spaces are limited and on a first come basis.
