Materials:
For this course a variety of wet and dry materials is ideal as we will be experimenting with mixed media. Ideally you will have graphite or charcoal, white paint (acrylic or household emulsion), ink, soft pastels or water colour crayons, and some materials to collage with - tissue, sugar paper, wallpaper samples, or create your own by painting some sheets of paper. You don’t need a lot of any one material, variety is the key. You will need some different surfaces to work on - cardboard is super, plus some reasonably robust paper (cartridge is fine), and lastly some wallpaper paste. If you are investing in materials, then most of the ones I buy for my regular Life Class are from Jackson’s Art.
About:
Drawing underpins all artistic practice. A loose and free approach enables you to explore your subject matter in an expressive and investigative manner. It is also one of the best methods for honing your observational skills, so they are honest, which in turn will improve your accuracy. During this six week course you will tackle a series of liberating exercises, designed to free you up. From blind drawing, to mixed media, you will use your own setting, still life and even yourself to explore your drawing without the constraints of having to get it right. As always the critique is individually focused with no “right" or “wrong” but rather a goal of individual development and original expression.
How it works:
I email you the brief and a link to our Zoom meetings a day or so ahead. At the beginning of the session we meet to discuss the brief. You then go off and create your work and upload it to my google drive. We meet again towards the end to critique everyones work.
If for any reason you can’t make the Zoom meetings then you are welcome to call or email me another time, and of course during the two hours if you need feedback on your work while you draw.
