Ink

Ink

I usually work quickly with inks and prefer a ten to 15 minute sitting to a long one. I find the limited time encourages me to focus on the essence of a pose. For me this is the character, weight and mood, as much as the model's shape and features. Because of this I tend to produce quite a bit, much of which never sees the light of day again, but still contributes something to the pieces you see. I find working in ink both liberating and restrictive at the same time. The permanence of Indian ink forces me to commit to my decisions. While the free flowing wash helps me to enjoy the mistakes. I try to record the bare minimum and like to leave my work fairly open, as I find it makes for a more thoughtful and honest piece.

You are always welcome to view my original pieces. Please do email me.
